If you’re trying to publish a regular e-mail newsletter for your customers, good news! There’s a wealth of content out there that you can use for free — poor, average, good, and occasionally excellent. Why is this content offered free of charge? Two reasons:

1.  Article directories can earn revenue from Google ads placed on their site as part of the Google AdSense program (www.google.com/adsense). This has stimulated the growth of thousands of look-alike article sites that receive very little traffic. Others are niche sites that carry articles in particular vertical categories.
2. Websites can be promoted effectively through articles. A link to the author’s website contained in each free article serves to:  (a) bring targeted traffic through a well-designed, intriguing “signature” or author bio at the bottom of the article and (b) raise Google PageRank by creating more incoming links to a website. These links point to the author’s website from the article’s presence both on the article sites and on the websites that use the free articles.

Moreover, article submission tools make article spamming extremely easy. Hold on, it’s not that simple. Submitting your article to hundreds or thousands of article sites can actually hurt you, since Google spiders are finely tuned to spot spam in its many flavors. You’re much better off to submit your article to five of your favorite article sites and a couple of niche sites, and resist the temptation to blast your article to every pathetic article site on the planet.

WordPress.com users can now pin their blog to their Windows taskbar, allowing them to immediately launch the blog from the taskbar and write a post, moderate comments, and view stats from a contextual menu. 1. Akismet. Now if you are a WP vet you know this is a no-brainer. It comes loaded with any version of WP. But if you are new … you don’t need to pass over this. You will learn soon enough that without it you will be flooded with spammers commenting on your posts with 10,000 links to other sites. Akismet will deal with that for you. You have to have a WP api code … but that is not hard to get … and every other WordPress blog you put up you can use the same number.

2. Quick Adsense. I have tried many, many adsense plugins. This by-far is the easiest to use. You just set it and forget it (Sorry had to use that). Even though most people are pretty blind to Google Adsense Ads these days. You might, just might get someone who sees something that they might want to check out and wham-o … the holy grail of clicks … you will land yourself a whole 33 cents. You now only have to wait many, many more days until you accumulate $100 for Google to send you a check. In 7 years … I have gotten two checks from Google. But … I still try.

3. I like me some Zemanta. This is a pretty new plugin for me. But I love it. If you blog a lot, it will help you fill in with contextual links and pictures. Here is the plug in blurb … Contextual suggestions of links, pictures, related content and SEO tags that makes your blogging fun and efficient. I don’t know how “fun” it is … but maybe … fun is such a relative term.

4. All in One SEO pack. I won’t tell you that I understand all of what this plugin will do, but I was told that I needed it so that people could find my blogs. So far, I don’t know if it is working with the 8 people who came yesterday … who knows, without I might have only gotten 3 … but one of them was probably my mom. I’m certain she does not know what a SEO pack is.

5. Remembering now that these are must have plugins, I have now painted myself in the corner. I have several more plugins that I love … the TweetMeme, Admin Favicon, Socialable, ahhhh … the last one I feel that is a “must have” is … (drum roll please) … Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP). I like this plugin because it has a super long useless name so that you have to learn an acrostic to remember it .. but it really is a must have. Here is the WP blurb … Returns a list of related entries based on a unique algorithm for display on your blog and RSS feeds. A templating feature allows customization of the display. This list goes at the end of your post … linking back to other posts you have written on the same subject … draining more time from your visitor than he expected to spend …. hahahaha … more time on my site. Man … my bounce rate is awesome.
